The user of an email address that sent a death threats to hundreds of Harvard University students and affiliates has apologized and blamed the whole situation on her younger brother, the school has confirmed.
On Friday, the death threats, which included offensive and racist language, was blasted out to hundreds, prompting Harvard to beef up police presence on campus over the weekend.
On Saturday, an email sent from the same account to the same recipients apologized for the previous message, which the user said was sent by her younger brother. The initial message, she indicated, should not have been taken seriously.
An initial investigation indicated the email originated from overseas and therefore “may not be credible,” according to Harvard authorities.
