An image taken during at the World Trade Center site just before the 15th anniversary of 9/11 has created debate around what mysterious figure it may or may not be showing.
The photo was taken on Sept. 9 by Rich McCormack during the “Tribute in Light,” which features two light beams shining toward the sky to represent the World Trade Center buildings lost during the 9/11 attacks and serves as a tribute to those lost. McCormack was standing on the waterfront in Hoboken, New Jersey at about 9:30 p.m. when he captured what has been described as a “heavenly” image, according to Inside Edition. “I didn’t realize the image was there until I looked back into the camera and saw a larger piece of white there and I kept enlarging it and saw the image,” McCormack told Inside Edition. He claims the image has not been Photoshopped.
McCormack interrupted the mysterious figure as “ a lord or an angel.” “I feel like it was angels watching over us,” he said to Inside Edition.
Others have different opinions — from just a simple cloud formation to Jesus. But several commenters atNJ.comchose to look at the hopeful side of the image.
“I’m not overly religious but it’s not the worst thing in the world to think that maybe there is something better than what we’ve turned our world into. Whether you agree with Jesus being real or not, it’s good, basic moral philosophy that if people practiced (especially those that profess to be ardent believers) we’d be better off,” one online commenter wrote.
“I’m not so egotistical to believe that I know if that’s a real image of something divine or a trick of light or computer. An image like that makes me think that maybe the WTC site is more than a place defined by the worst of our humanity.”
