Higher MetroCard prices now in effect

Beware the new fares.

MetroCard price changes that wereapproved in January went into effect Sunday. The price of a subway ride remains the same $2.75, but the bonus on purchases of $5.50 and over drop from 11 percent to5 percent.

Commuters who buy weekly and monthly MetroCards will go from paying $116.50 to $121, and weekly cards rise from $31 to $32.

Express bus service base fare remains at $6.50.

Others took to social media to grumble.

“Hey excuse me @MTA… You can’t have this many schedule changes and delays AND increase fares,” Luka Frik tweeted, echoing the sentiments of many.

Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North tickets will increase by up to 3.75 percent.

Tolls at bridges and crossings will increase, too, at varying rates. For an extensive list click here.

The one-way toll on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will increase from $16 to $17. Staten Island residents will continue to pay a discounted fare, while E-ZPass rates will increase between 6.3 and 9.1 percent, depending on the crossing.
