Most everyone in America by now knows when to see the solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, but how long does the eclipse last – and when does it end?
The total solar eclipse is expected to last for around 90 minutes but most areas will only see it for a minute and 10 seconds. According to Time Magazine, “the moon’s shadow travels at roughly 2,400 mph over the face of the Earth.”
The article adds that the longest duration of the eclipse will be near Carbondale, Illinois. It’s expected that the sun will be entirely covered for nearly three minutes.
In Boston, Massachusetts the sun will be covered around 2:46 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. At 2:44 p.m., the eclipse will hit its peak in New York City. The peak in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is also expected around 2:44 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Expect the party to end around 4:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in all East Coast cities.
