Last time we checked, New York City, burgeoning metropolis that we love, and glamping (for those not in the know, that’s the buzzy slang for glamorous camping), didn’t mix. Until now. Starting in mid-August, luxury camping company, Terra Glamping will be launching the highly-anticipated Terra Glamping: Fort Tilden, an upscale camp pop-up in Fort Tilden, which part of the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area on the Rockaway Peninsula.
There, you’ll be able to laze away your glorious summer days in totally tricked out safari-style tents that come completely furnished and give guests an opportunity to experience New York City from a novel perspective unlike any before. Through the end of September, you’ll be able to book the oceanside tents for an overnight like you would a hotel (booking will open soon, and rooms, erm, tents are expected to fly fast).
After you’ve indulged in a snooze on the Queen-size memory foam mattress, enjoy amenities like a continental breakfast, s’mores, a nightly campfire and more. And yes, we had the same thought too: Is there a bathroom, though? Indeed, there is. Your luxury tent comes with a bathroom and shower trailer that’s got shampoo, conditioner and body wash for your convenience.
Yes, you’re a mere stone’s throw away from the majestic Atlantic Ocean, but the Rockaways (where Fort Tilden is located) are also brimming with loads of other activities. Artsy types may enjoy a visit to the MoMA PS1 collaboration art installation Rockaway! while outdoorsy folks can hit up plenty of local hiking trails. Fort Tilden has not hosted overnight camping since 2012, so rest assured, you’ll be the object of Instagram jealousy of all of your followers.
Terra Glamping was founded in 2015 by CEO Rebecca Martin and COO David Levine and also runs Terra Glamping Events, the first full-service glamping and event production company in the East Coast. (Read: Throw one hell of a backyard party.)
