If Ivanka Trump didn’t know White House staff gave her this nickname, she does now

On Wednesday, Ivanka Trump sort of casually stopped by a meeting full of Congressional leaders and just so happened to end up talking about one of her pet projects, child care tax credit. Moves like the “Ivanka drop by” have earned the clothing designer a pet name: Princess Royal.

The first daughter popped in on media interviews in the beginning of Trump’s term and sat in on multiple meetings, even taking her dad’s place for two hours at the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, in July.

According to Vanity Fair, White House aides have a nickname for Ivanka Trump that stems from Ivanka Trump’s perch between world leaders at G20.

“Excuse me,” one former Trump adviser said. “This is not a royal family, and she’s not the princess royal.”

The nickname “Princess Royal” stuck, but is reportedly not used while she’s around.

Ivanka Trump: Daddy’s little girl or future POTUS?

Is this just the father-daughter relationship Ivanka Trump and the president have? Maybe.

The art of the pop-in dates all the way back to Ivanka Trump’s private school days at the Chapin School in New York City. She told CNN in 2016 that she used to hide in the janitor’s closet during recess and call her father at the Trump Organization. He would put her on speakerphone, regardless whom he had in his office.

“It was colleagues, it was titans of industry, it was heads of countries. He’d always tell everyone in the room how great a daughter I was and say cute things and ask me about a test I took,” Ivanka Trump said at the time.

To some, President Trump is taking nepotism too far.

Trump even called his daughter up to the stage during a speech on tax reform in North Dakota.

“By the way, Ivanka Trump,” the president said. “Everybody loves Ivanka.”

“Sometimes they’ll say, ‘You know, he can’t be that bad a guy’ — look at Ivanka,” Trump quipped. “No, come on up, honey. She’s so good. She wanted to make the trip.”

“She said, ‘Dad, can I go with you?’ She actually said, ‘Daddy, can I go with you?’” Trump said, correcting himself. “I like that, right? ‘Daddy, can I go with you?’ I said, ‘Yes, you can.’ ‘Where are you going?’ ‘North Dakota.’”
