Love the minimalist and affordable goods at Ikea but get overwhelmed by the mere sight of its labyrinthine showrooms? There’s another way: make Ikea come to you.
That’s the premise of the Home Tour Squad, a team of longtime Ikea associates who travel around the country providing makeovers for apartments and homes for families who need a little extra inspiration.
“We have a background in interior design and an interest in working with families,” explains Home Tour Squad director Rocky Brewer, who’s been with Ikea for 10 years. “We take the knowledge that we’ve built in the store and translate that into real solutions for people in their homes.”
For their fourth cross-country tour, the squad will be coming to four cities: Philadelphia, New York/New Jersey, Washington, D.C. and Boston. Residents in each city have a separate window to apply for a chance to have the Home Tour Squad to assess their space and work together to transform it:
Philadelphia: Now through Sept. 24
New York/New Jersey: Oct. 9-Nov. 12
Washington, DC: Jan. 1-Feb. 4
Boston: Feb. 26-April 1
To enter, create a short video (up to three minutes) about a dream you have and how an Ikea home makeover could help make it a reality, then submit it and pray to the gods of interior design that you’ll be graced by their efficient, cheerful and affordable presence.
And even if you’re not one of the lucky ones chosen for a makeover, you can crib the Home Tour Squad’s design tips by checking out before and after videos on their YouTube channel:
