The most popular photo-sharing app had released a new update that allows users to post images that aren’t square.
Instagramannounced the news yesterday in a blog post and theupdateis available to everyone via Apple App Store andGoogle Play. Up until now, photographers and photo enthusiasts had to rely on third-party apps such asSquareReadyto allow their portrait or landscape image to display the way they wantinInstagram. Now, with the click of a button on the bottom left corner of the editing interface, the image can display vertical or horizontal depending on how it was shot. The companydecided to include these newformats to allow photographers to better share their images. “Square format has been and always will be part of who we are,”Instagramsays. “That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.” To takeadvantage of this feature, you must use the phone’s camera or any other cameraapp that doesn’t shoot square. The camera within theInstagramapp will remain cropped as a square.
