On Saturday, the hashtag #JusticeForAvaLynn became one of the trending topics on Twitter.
Users circulated the above photo of 5-year-old AvaLynn, posted by her mother to a Facebook group raising money for her medical care. AvaLynn’s mother says her daughter was beaten up by a child on a playground at school and pushed off a slide.
However, this is currently the only coverage of the event, on the website of The Mississippi Press and Press-Register. Pascagoula police Lt. Jim Roe told the website that,”Right now, there’s no indication something criminal took place. I have spoken with school security and an assistant superintendent is investigating the matter.”
The school district also released a statement, posted on the website, that acknowledged a student was injured on the playground of Arlington Elementary School. But it went on to say: “No other children were involved in the incident.”
The family’s GoFundMe page has raised more than $4,600 of its $10,000 goal as of Saturday evening.
