After the death last week in New York of Susannah Mushatt Jones, the former oldest person in the world, an Italian woman has now been recognized as the person who has been on the planet longer than anyone. On Monday, Emma Martina Luigia Morano of Vercelli, Italy, was confirmed by Guinness World Records as the current oldest living human at age 116 years and 169 days. She can teach us all a lesson of the value of a life well lived,” Marco Frigatti, the head of records at Guinness, was quoted in a statement about Morano.

The supercentenarian has followed a similar daily diet for approximately 90 years: three eggs (two raw, one cooked), fresh pasta and a serving of raw meat, Guinness stated.
Morano has also been single for the majority of her life, according to theNew York Times. An unhappy marriage ended in 1938, and she never remarried. “I didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” Morano was quoted by the Times.
