Jamaal Charles is owned in 98 percent of Yahoo Fantasy Football leagues and is currently “questionable” for Sunday night’s huge showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Andy Reid told the media Wednesday that there’s a “chance” that Charles plays Sunday night – which is aboutas vague as it gets.
We’re coming up on a year since Charles tore his ACL. When he tore his ACL in mid-September of 2011 he played in the Chiefs’ opener thenext season. But that was when Charles was 25-years-old. Running backs age in dog years, so there are serious questions regarding whether or not Charles will be able to bounce back from the injury this time around. All told, he might not be worth the risk if you’re banking on him to carry your team. In fact, you could probably get a haul for him right now on the trade market given the intrigue.
Even when healthy, Charles’ numbers have been slipping a bit. He had 1,287 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns in 2013 and those numbers dropped to 1,033 yards and nine touchdowns in 2014. Charles played in 15 games in each of those seasons. Here’s guessing that Charles WILL play against the Steelers this weekend, but do not -under any circumstances -expect him to shine. He’s facing a Steelers defense that gives up just 75.3 yards per game on the ground – good for fourth best in the NFL. On top of that, the Chiefs will no doubt ease Charles back into the offense – so if he does play, expect him to only get five or six carries.
Verdict: Sit
