James Carpenter to land with Jets

Mike Maccagnan continues his rebuilding of the New York Jets, this time landing one of the premier offensive linemen on the market.

James Carpenter will be a Jet, with reports on Tuesday morning pointing towards the former first round pick beefing up the offensive line. Solid in pass protection, the guard becomes the second Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman in as many years to join the Jets. Last offseason, right tackle Breno Giacomini joined the team.

On Mar. 1, Metro reported via team sources that the Jets were not going to re-sign incumbent right guard Willie Colon and that Carpenter was high on their list. He has made 29 appearances and 23 starts over the past two seasons.

With the signing of Carpenter, the Jets now have three first round picks starting on their offensive line, joining center Nick Mangold and left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson.

But the rolling and dealing may not be done with the addition of the man known as “Big James.” The Jets are expected to be heavy players for former Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as well as cornerback Darrelle Revis.

There is a growing likelihood that Revis could be Jets-bound, marking a return to the team that drafted him after two years away from New York.
