After Jennifer Lawrence wrote her blistering essay for Lena Dunham about pay inequality, “Why do I make less than my co-stars,” and Bradley Cooper came out strongly in support of the issue, someone obviously thought, “Hey, I wonder what the rest of the ‘American Hustle’ cast think of all this?” Too bad they asked Jeremy Renner next.

“That’s not my job,” Renner said when asked about negotiating alongside female co-stars to ensure fair treatment. “I don’t know contracts and money and all that sort of stuff. When it comes to that sort of stuff I let other people deal with that.” So it’s not so much that Renner is anti-women so much as he’s just bad at math stuff — which I can totally relate to. Hopefully Amy Adams or Christian Bale can settle this once and for all.

But when the remarks understandably upset some folks, Renner was quick to hop on social media to clarify his position. Well, not so much clarify as say stuff. “On the issue of gender equality I have always supposrted women deserving equal pay. Period,” he writes. “Gender, race, creed or sexual orientatiuon should have absolutely no influence in pay, positively or negatively.” Sure, but what about math aptitude?
