The sports world was rocked Wednesday with the news that longtime ESPN announcer John Saunders had passed away at the age of 61.
ESPN’s Hannah Storm announced Saunders’ death live on SportsCenter.
There had been no mention of Saunders being sick in recent weeks, adding to the shock of his death.
Tom Korun, a sports anchor at WFTS in Tampa, tweeted out the following Wednesday, possibly offering some insight in Saunders’ passing.
“Just awful news about @ESPN John Saunders. He died today at the age of 61 … John Saunders cause of death still unknown. #JohnSaunders wrote in a book depression almost cost him his life …. Dan LeBatard said #JohnSaunders suffered from “equilibrium issues.”
