For those of you wondering what Jon Stewart has been up to, we’ll tell you this: he’s been living on a New Jersey farm, opening up an animal sanctuary and generally being a chill ass dude. But he’s finally ready to make his comeback and thank goodness because we couldn’t have waited another moment.
On Wednesday, HBO announced that Stewart is not only returning to television, but to stand up comedy. It will be his first stand-up special in over 20 years — his last being 1996’s “Jon Stewart” Unleavened.” The date and location will be announced as they are confirmed.
Stewart will also host the latest “Night of Too Many Stars” benefit for NEXT for AUTISM on November 18th. The special will be a blend of forms, featuring stand-up comedy performances, sketches and short film. And per the statement Jon Stewart is more than just contractually thrilled. “I’m really thrilled to be able to return to stand-up on HBO,” he says. “They’ve always set the standard for great stand-up specials. Plus, I can finally use up the last of the Saddam Hussein jokes left over from my first special.” Classic Stewart!
Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming and resident cheerleader notes that Stewart will be a welcome addition to HBO’s line up. “We’re excited to bring Jon to the network with this pair of specials,” Bloys said. “We’ve all missed his uniquely thoughtful brand of humor.”
The 54-year-old is most famous for stint as the host of “The Daily Show,” which he stepped down from in 2015 after a 16-year-run. So this will certainly be a very welcome return — we need voices like Stewart’s in pivotal times like this. This being, you know, the Trump era.
Bring it on. We’re absolutely ready for the satirical hot dad vibes Stewart is bound to bring.
