EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – In the first hint of animosity between the two players, Josh Norman picked up Odell Beckham Jr. off the ground, very nearly throwing the New York Giants wide receiver to the ground in what looked like a wrestling move. In a first quarter play Norman, the Washington Redskins mouthy cornerback picked Beckham off his feet. With his arms wrapped around Beckham, Norman looks like he is ready to body slam the Giants star to the ground then drops him to the ground after holding him up, off his feet, for a few seconds. Norman, feet away from an official, then put his hands up in the air after he casually casts Beckham to the ground. Beckham protested for a penalty that did not come.
There was no reason for Norman to pick up Beckham as the ball did not come towards his direction.
During pregame warmups, neither player interacted with each other and seemed immune to the scrutiny surrounding them. Both players were involved in an off-the-field fracas last year when Norman was a member of the Carolina Panthers. The feud continued in a war of words during the offseason. Individually, both players spoke with referees and game officials before warmups started. Norman was booed when he walked on the field at MetLife Stadium to start stretching and warming up before the game. Midway through the first quarter, Norman very nearly intercepted Giants quarterback Eli Manning but his full-extension dive came up short in his pickoff attempt.
