Kentucky clerk Kim Davis has been taken into protective custody for defying the U.S.Supreme Court’s ruling that sheissue same-sex marriage licenses, the AP reported. Davis has reportedly been placed in jail, and may face hefty fines for being in contempt of court.
This week the U.S. Supreme Court declined to grant Davis a stay on a federal judge’s injunction that would force her to issue marriage licenses to all comers. Davis has cited her religious beliefs as reason to deny the licenses to gay couples in Morehead, Kentucky.
