As it turns out, Larry David is related to Bernie Sanders.
Last year, during the U.S. presidential election, Larry David made several appearances on “Saturday Night Live” performing as Bernie Sanders and it was spot-on.
Many people were taken by surprise at the resemblance between the two and how Larry David perfectly portrayed all of Bernie Sanders’ mannerisms. In fact, presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders was impressed by Larry David’s portrayal and joked about having him at his next campaign event when he was running for president.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Seinfeld” creator discovered he is related to the Vermont senator and former presidential candidate during a Television Critics Associaton event on Wednesday.
David first learned of his relation to Sanders when he made an appearance on the PBS show “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.” — a show in which celebrities learn information about their background and who they are related to.
“I was very happy about that,” David said. “I thought there must have been some connection,” he added.
David was asked to keep the information a secret until the PBS show airs, but it appears that he spilled the beans during a Q&A session with cast members from “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Despite the spoiler, we anticipate many people will tune in to watch the PBS show when it airs.
David, 70, and Sanders, 75, were both born in Brooklyn, NY. Larry David did not mention exactly how the two are related, but did say that Sanders is a “third cousin or something.”
The recently revealed information comes just ahead of Season 9 of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” which will air October 1.
