Hermione Granger has traded her magic wand for a pair of wings as “Harry Potter” actress Emma Watson slyly deposited books here and there in the New York subway system on Wednesday.
Watson is a book fairy with the London-based group Books on the Underground, an organization that typically stock stations and trains with about 150 books per week. Here she is in London.
She enjoyed her fairy godmother duties in London so much, she took her subterranean mission to New York.
Today I am going to deliver Maya Angelou books to the New York subway. Then I am going to fight even harder for all the things I believe in.

“New York, this is not a drill,” Books Underground tweeted. “We popped across the pond to help @EmmaWatson and @BooksSubway to drop copies of Mom&Me&Mom #OurSharedShelf.”

“Mom & Me & Mom” is the seventh and final installment in a series of biographies by Maya Angelou. It was originally published in 2013.
You might even find a copy of the book signed by Watson. “A welcome distraction awaits you with a note inside from @EmmaWatson herself 🙂 @BooksSubway,” Book Underground tweeted.

Watson is a British citizen but she was rooting for Hillary Clinton in the U.S. general election.
“In the last US election, 70 million women cast ballots versus 60 million men,” she tweeted in October. “Women, your vote could swing this election.”
