A woman pushing a baby carriage in Lynn was run over and killed by a van backing out of a parking spot Sunday.
According to the Lynn Item, police said the woman was killed in a parking lot near the intersection of Boston and Hamilton streets at the Lynn and Saugus border when adark green minivan repeatedly ran over her.The baby was not seriously injured.
Two Lynn teenagers witnessed the incident. Just moments after asking the 61-year-old woman for directions, they saw her taken down by the minivan. Moises Baez ran to alert the driver, who kept trying to get over the body. Amanda Arsenault ran to assist the crying baby, who didn’t appear to have any injuries besides a bump on her head. The child was taken to North Shore Children’s Hospital to undergo evaluation.
“He was just burning out on her,” Baez told the Item. He and Arsenault described how the driver of the minivan accelerated the vehicle, trying to get over the body. The driver was also listening to very loud music and didn’t understand English very well, the Item continued.
“I still don’t understand how he didn’t feel he hit somebody, because that dent’s pretty huge,” Baez said.
