The headmaster of Boston’s only vocation school has resigned after a tumultuous week.

Dr Diane Ross Gary leaves Madison Park Technical Vocation High School in Roxbury following student protests over lack of class assignments and a revelation that she did not complete the headmaster certification process.

To date, the school year has been marked with confusion and disorganization for Madison Park students. Teachers were still being hired as of Sept. 4 and many students did not have classes for the first few days of school as class schedules had yet to be worked out.

“A leadership change is the right thing to do at this time,” said Boston Public Schools Interim Superintendent John McDonough through a statement.

He added, “I recognize that this is yet another transition for a school that has already experienced plenty of distractions. You deserve stability, but you have not had it. You have my promise we will not give up until we have made things right. Madison Park is a place we all believe in.”

Through a statement, Gary said of her resignation, “I believe this is in the school’s best interest. This change is effective immediately. I am confident that this is the right decision to make, and the timing is right for me and my family.”
