Man attacked, burned with boiling water in possible Bronx hate crime: Reports

A 50-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with severe burns after a trio of men attacked him while using a racial slur and threw boiling water at his face, according to published reports.

The incident occurred at about 8:55 p.m. on Feb. 21 at West Kingsbridge Road and Grand Avenue in the Bronx when the suspects allegedly punched and kicked the victim and called him a “n—–,” the New York Daily News reported. One of the men then threw what was believed to be boiling water at the victim’s face.

The victim — later identified as Thomas Kornell — was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and treated for severe burns to his face, according to the New York Post.

The suspects were described to be two Hispanic men and one black man, the Post reported.

Police are now investigating the incident as a hate crime.
