Two important things:
Maya Rudolph — “Saturday Night Live”’s only suitable vocal and comedic stand-in for Beyonce should Beyonce herself be otherwise unavailable —is a huge fan of the late great Prince. Rudolph and singer-songwriter Gretchen Lieberum have a Prince cover band, aptly named Princess… and they’re going on tour. Rudolph and Lieberum joined D’Angelo to perform “Sometimes It Snows in April” for the Tonight Show as a tribute to Prince following his April death. The duo (who sang on while D’Angelo broke down) started their cover act in college, having discovered they were both huge fans of the Purple one. The band since continued to intermittently perform, eventually garnering the support of Prince himself. “He gets that what we are doing is purely loving,”Rudolph told LA Weeklylast May. “He’s such a prolific songwriter and he has an unbelievable amount of talent, and it’s all amazing and all incredible quality.” The duo will bring their to the Brooklyn Bowl on Sept.23 and 24, and Boston’s Paradise Rock Club on Sept.21. They also announced a D.C. date (Sept.25) this morning; which hopefully means additional shows will roll out soon.
