MIT held a campus wide vigil Monday to remember those from the school who have died.
The 15-minute event, called “All Doors Open” was intended as a time for anyone affiliated with MIT to reflect on how the school should deal with such tragedy. During the past six months, six members of the MIT community have died.
Most recently, undergraduate student Phoebe Wang was found dead in her dorm last Tuesday. Earlier in the month, grad student Austin Travis was found dead in his apartment. The causes of those deaths have yet to be disclosed.
The event was meant to foster dialogue. In a letter released last week, MIT encouraged members of their community to engage with one another.
An open letter signed by MIT brass last week read, “Monday at noon, we ask that everyone at MIT stop what they are doing and take 15 minutes or so to remember those we have lost, reflect on how their deaths have affected us and think broadly about how we as a community should respond.”
