Mom, daughter accused of incest after getting married

A mother and daughter are facing incest charges after authorities found out that the pair are legally married.

Patricia Spann, 43, and Misty Spann, 25, were married in March 2016 in Comanche County, Oklahoma, according to KFOR.

The sole act of marrying a close relative is considered incest in Oklahoma, according to The Associated Press. A sexual relationship doesn’t need to exist.

Patricia and Misty reunited two years ago, according to KFOR. Misty, along with her two brothers, had been raised by a grandparent after her mother lost custody of them.

The mother reportedly told officials that she thought it was OK for them to get married since her name wasn’t on her daughter’s birth certificate.

It also reportedly isn’t the first time she has married one of her kids. Patricia married one of her sons in 2008, according to KFOR, but the marriage was annulled in March 2010.

Both women have been arrested are being held on $10,000 bond.
