A Manhattan mom who was seriously injured when a tree fell on her and her three children in Central Park last month is now suing the city for $200 million, according to her attorney.
Anne Monoky Goldman is “completely immobilized” after the Aug. 15 incident that left her pinned under an elm tree on West Drive at 62nd Street inside the park, Jordan Merson told NBC4.
Goldman was pushing a double stroller with her two sons, who are ages 2 and 4, with her then 41-day-old son strapped to her chest when the tree collapsed.
Crews used chainsaws to rescue Goldman from beneath the tree, which fell with such force it was completely uprooted from the ground.
Goldman is on bed rest since being released from the hospital last week, according to ABC7, and must lay flat for the next two to three months due to a neck fracture. Because of her injuries, she is unable to breastfeed her infant.
While her children’s injuries were non-life-threatening, her 2-year-old suffered a brain hemorrhage and concussion.
Merson is slated to file a claim today against the city and Central Park Conservancy, which maintains all trees within Central Park.
The agency did not disclose what caused the tree to uproot, but said in a statement to Metro last month that trees in the vicinity were being inspected “for health and safety,” but did not offer further details about what that would entail.
