Afterinstalling a giant blow-up “Breathing Flower” on its lawn in March, the Museum of Fine Arts plans this week to set up an even bigger inflatable “Fruit Tree” atMarketplace Centernext to Faneuil Hall. The same artist, South Korea’s Choi Jeong Hwa is behind both of the colorful structures. He is one of many artists highlighted in an MFA exhibit called “Megacities Asia” which runs through July 17. The installation is scheduled for Friday, April 8, at 12:30 p.m. “Get ready for #inflategate!” the MFA posted on a Facebook event page for the artwork. “Love Breathing Flower? Wait til you see this!” the museum tweeted. The suggested hashtag for pictures posted to social media, the MFA said, is #mfaMEGA.
The Marketplace Center setting is perfect for the artist, who was inspired by marketplaces in his native Seoul, as well as by plastic and handmade things, said Laura Weinstein, an MFA curator.
“He’s someone who thinks a plastic fruit that you see in a market is actually something that is potentially beautiful,” Weinstein said in an interview. “He wants to see importance in everyday objects.” RELATED: Giant inflatable bunnies hit Boston’s Lawn on D
Spectators on Friday can also sip samples from Cambridge’s Mother Juice, according to the Facebook page.
And anyone who takes pictures of “Fruit Tree,” and shows off their “fresh pics” at the ticket counter, gets free admission to the museum, the MFA posted.
