We could use more mid-size concert venues outside of Manhattan, and there’s reason to be hopeful about Brooklyn Steel, the latest project from Bowery Presents.
When the concert hall opens at 319 Frost St. on April 6, it will be the largest general admission venue in the borough with a capacity of 1,800. Bowery Presents, which also runs venues ranging from Hell’s Kitchen’s cavernous Terminal 5 to the intimate Mercury Lounge, kept many decorative nods to the building’s past as a steel factory while striving to create a user-friendly venue.
The main concert area has a raised platform in the back for better sightlines and a spacious mezzanine for those who don’t need to get sweated on. Three bars cater to concert-goers, with the related all-important bathroom situation kept in check with 40 stalls.
Sound will be provided by L-Acoustics, who have worked with acts like David Guetta, Adele and Maroon 5, while the noise situation will be kept under control with a rooftop garden (no word yet on whether it will be accessible to concert-goers).
Brooklyn Steel is looking to be the new place to catch popular but not MSG-size acts, with Animal Collective, Father John Misty and Goldfrapp among the upcoming shows. Tickets for all of these shows and more are on sale now.
