Hasbro is releasing a special game for all you Monopoly cheaters out there. The popular toy company has announced they will release a special Monopoly Cheaters Edition this year.
The Monopoly Cheaters Edition was created for anyone who has ever stolen some money from the Monopoly “bank,” or tried to avoid paying rent when they land on someone’s property.
According to Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of Hasbro gaming, a lot of people cheat when playing Monopoly, so they are cashing in.
“A recent study conducted by Hasbro revealed that nearly half of game players attempt to cheat during Monopoly games, so in 2018, we decided it was time to give fans what they’ve been craving all along – a Monopoly game that actually encourages cheating,” Berkowitz said in a statement to Business Insider.
According to Hasbro, the object of the game will still be to be the player who ends up with the most money at the end of the game, but the Monopoly Cheaters Edition will actually encourage players to do some of the things they may have been trying to do in the regular version of the Monopoly game.
Some of the things you can do in Monopoly Cheaters Edition include:
— Stealing money from the bank
— Placing a hotel on one of your pieces of property
— Removing a hotel from someone else’s property
— Taking an extra $100 in Monopoly money from the bank when you pass go
— Moving another player’s token instead of your own on your turn
— Giving someone less money than you owe them
— Collecting rent for someone else’s property
According to Business Insider, players are rewarded if they are able to complete any of the cheating tasks. If you’re caught cheating, there are some consequences, which include things like going to jail and putting on a handcuff that is attached to the game board or paying the person back their money.
If you’re the type who likes to dip your hands in the Monopoly bank to try and slip yourself a few hundred dollars, then this game is definitely for you because there is no official banker in the new edition.
“For the first time in Monopoly history, there is no designated Banker,” Berkowitz said. “Players are in control of the Bank on their turn, and pass it to the next player when their turn is over, making it easier to pull of ‘cheats’ such as a Bank Heist.” So, if you’re the type who doesn’t have the patience for regular Monopoly, get a thrill from cheating or if you simply take pleasure in catching people cheat, then you may want to check this game out.
So, when does Monopoly Cheaters Edition come out?
The official release date for the game hasn’t been announced yet, but according to Hasbro, it will be available this fall and will cost $19.99.
