More than a third of seated diners make their reservations via OpenTable.
Immediate gratification and restaurant tables are pretty much mutually exclusive. But OpenTable’s revamped app is working to make eating out easier with instantly confirmed mobile reservations.
The OpenTable concept began in 1998, but the app for iOS 7 is brand new. The redesign makes searching restaurants easier: just enter an address or city to find nearby eateries. You can also filter by top-rated categories or cuisines.
The new simplified user interface means you can swipe left and right to display all available reservation times. Pulling down on a restaurant page shows photos. If you need to change the time, date or party size, new search results will display immediately.
OpenTable members accrue Dining Rewards Points with every reservation (typically 100 points per reservation), and are eligible for Dining Cheques as soon as they earn 2,000 points. Dining Cheques are like mobile gift certificates.
The app is free for diners to download on iOs; it’s the restaurants that have to pay to participate in the service.
