The holiday season is the time to give — and that means tipping for New York apartment dwellers.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to start handing out cash to those that work at your building, according to StreetEasy, which put out a guide on how much to gift.

“Holiday tips are not mandatory, but they are customary,” StreetEasy wisely points out, adding that renters do tip, but often less than owners.

StreetEasy adds that that the size of the tip is based on a number of factors, includingthe size of the building and length of the time you’ve lived there.

If you are thinking that a gift from the heart is better than cold, hard cash, then think again, because the real estate site says that most building staff prefer money over a holiday present.
