Nitehawk Cinema saves Park Slope theater from condo fate

The Pavilion will live to see better days again.

Nitehawk Cinema, Williamsburg’s indie theater-bar-restaurant whose Film Feasts and cartoon brunches have become much too popular for a single venue, has saved the historic Park Slope theater from being turned into condos.

Instead, The Pavilion will become a second Nitehawk Cinema, with plans to open in 2017 as Nitehawk Prospect Park. The new venue will be much larger with seven screens, two bars and an expanded kitchen to keep turning out those themed dinners and drinks, delivered right to your seat.

“Park Slope can expect the same dine-in concept as Nitehawk Williamsburg, same vibe and diverse mix of repertory and first-run programming, including more family-friendly programming,” says Nitehawk’s founder, Matthew Viragh, who opened the theater in 2011. “The size of the venue will also allow for quality Hollywood blockbuster first-run films as well as independent films.”

Renovations on The Pavilion, which opened in 1928, will begin in late October and will take about a year.
