About 140 students and 10 staff members at Condon Elementary School in South Boston have fallen ill in recent days with what is reportedly believed to be a norovirus.
The principal of Condon Elementary School, Robby Chisholm,sent out an automated call to parents Tuesday night informing them about the suspected outbreak, according to a report by the Boston Globe. The norovirus is a highly contagious virus spread from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Norovirus symptoms include diarrhea, throwing up, nausea and stomach pain. In some cases patients experience fever and headaches as well. The school department worked with the Boston Public Health Commission and inspectional services to sanitize the school Tuesday night, according to a report by My Fox Boston.
