NYC Halloween Parade 2017: Route, street closures, MTA info

On Tuesday, the 2017 NYC Halloween Parade will take place in the village and it’s guaranteed to be one of the spookiest events of the year.

New York City’s 44th annual Village Halloween parade is considered to be biggest Halloween party in the country with over 50,000 participants each year. From hundreds of giant puppets to all sorts of zombies to different variations of Trump costumes, Greenwich Village will be the place to be if you want to be wowed by the level of creativity New Yorkers have.

According to the official Halloween NYC Parade NYC website, there will be more than 50 marching bands playing music from around the world.

The theme for the 2017 Village Halloween Parade will be: “Cabinet of Curiosities: An Imaginary Menagerie” which will celebrate the hybrids, mash-ups and the frisson of crossed identities, according to the Halloween Parade website.

The Grand Marshal for the NYC Halloween Parade this year will be recording artist Anjelica who will ride on a specially designed New Orleans-style float.

As you can imagine, the Halloween village party will be packed with thousands of people in costumes, so make sure you bring your camera. According to Halloween NYC, areas between Bleecker Street and 14th Street are the most crowded so it’s best that you arrive early or consider a different spot to see the action. 

When is the NYC Halloween Parade?

The parade will take place on Tuesday, October 31 and starts at 7:00 pm EST. The parade will end around 11:00 p.m.

Where does the Halloween Parade start/end?

The parade will line up at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue. The parade will start on 6th Avenue at Spring Street and travel north and end at 16th Street.

2017 NYC Halloween Parade street closures

According to the New York City Police department and Department of Transportation, there will be several streets closded in the area for the parade and dispersal. Depending on the crowd, there may be additional closures in the area.

The following streets will be closed on Tuesday, October 31 from 7:00 p.m.  EST to 11 p.m.:

— 6th Avenue between Spring Street and Canal Street

— Dominick Street between Varick Street and 6th Avenue

— Sullivan Street between 6th Avenue and Spring Street

— Broome Street between Sullivan Street and Varick Street

— Spring Street between Varick Street and 6th Avenue

— 6th Avenue between Spring Street and West 16th Street  (Parade Route)

— West 16th Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue

— West 17th Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue

— West 18th Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue

— West 10th Street between 6th Avenue and Greenwich Avenue

— Vandam Street between Varick Street and 6th Avenue

Getting to the Halloween Parade (MTA info)

Because the parade will travel north from Canal Street to 16th Street on 6th Avenue, you have plenty of options to get to the parade. 

You can take the A, C, E, B, D, F, M trains to West 4 St-Washington Sq or the L, N, Q, R, W, 4, 5, 6, to 14th Street-Union Square. You can also take the 1, 2, or 3 trains to 14th Street and the 1 train to Cristopher and Houston streets. 

According to the MTA, the following busses are subject to rerouting due to the parade: M1, M2, M3, M7, M8, M14A/D, M20, M21, M55, X1, X7, X9, X10, X12, X17C, BxM18
