They came together for their love of Japanese animation, comics and costumes. And there was no shortage of costumes.
The annual Anime Boston convention, held over the weekend at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center, attracted about 20,000 attendees. Many of them visited the city in creative, if not curious, costumes.
Overseen by the New England Anime Society, the event is billed as the largest fan-run anime convention in the Northeast.
The event started with 4,000 people in 2003 and in 2012 grew to 22,000 attendees, according to organizers. Additionally, 350 people volunteer to work the convention.
