On Monday, Boston’s City Hall Plaza will host a Back to School Fashion Show that will draw attention to gun violence.
The Boston ‘Back to School Fashion Show’ will feature a provocative line-up of models taking to the catwalk in protective helmets and bulletproof vests.
Founders and activists, Manuel and Patricia Oliver from the group Change the Ref, will host the event along with several area teens.
Ready for Monday’s 11am Back to School Fashion Show at Boston City Hall Plaza – School season is about to start. If we don’t change actual gun laws, a school mass shooting will happen again any day, in any city. Come and join us! Music, Art, Fashion and Activism #ChangeTheRef pic.twitter.com/hQHiB10YuJ

The Olivers are the parents of Joaquin Oliver, one of the 17 students killed in the Parkland, Florida school shooting earlier this year on February 14.
“This will be a one of a kind runway event of provocative wear designed to fight hypocritical lawmakers,” the non-profit shared on Facebook.
“This is a unique event and we’re looking forward to collaborating with Boston youth to deliver a provocative message Monday. We hope activists from across the city will join us in memory of our son Joaquin to demand a change,” Manuel and Patricia Oliver said when speaking to Patch.
Since the death of their son, the Olivers have made it their mission to shine a light on gun violence, encouraging the youth of the nation to get active and involved in decisions that will affect their lives and their futures.

The fashion show is expected to begin at 11 a.m. with Manuel and Patricia Oliver expected to be in attendance as well as Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, and many others.
The Olivers have been seen joining advocates who are currently marching from Worcester to Springfield in support of stricter gun laws.
The march is expected to end after advocates reach the headquarters of gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson on August 26.
