Queens bank robber steals $12,000 from 4 Chase branches: Police

Over the past three months, the same man has robbed four Chase bank branches in Queens, getting away with more than $12,000 cash, the NYPD said.

The most recent robbery happened at about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday when police say the suspect walked into the Chase bank on Liberty Avenue in Jamaica. He passed the teller a note demanding money, and was handed $1,000 cash, police said.

The man, described as between 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, has followed a nearly identical pattern as the eight other bank robbery suspects who have struck multiple locations in New York City in recent weeks.

In each case, the suspect has approached the teller and handed the note. None of the suspects has showed a weapon or displayed one, authorities said.

Unlike most of the other bank robberies that NYPD detectives have tracked over the past three months, the latest suspect has targeted Chase banks exclusively, and has been successful.

In several other attempted bank robberies in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, bank employees have refused demands for money, police have reported.

That was the case in the last reported bank robbery attempt, on Dec. 8, at an Amalgamated Bank in Midtown. In that incident, a diminutive, middle-aged man passed a note to the teller demanding money. The teller walked away, and the man left the bank empty-handed, police said. He is still being sought.

The latest suspect has walked away from each of his reported four robberies with cash in hand, police said. The first two robberies were in Flushing and the next two in Jamaica, all around the same time, between 2 and 4 p.m.

The thefts began on Sept. 30, when authorities say he made off with $2,100 from a Chase branch on Union Turnpike.

Then on Nov. 23, he was handed $5,000 after walking into a Chase on Northern Boulevard.

A week after that, he struck a Chase on Hillside Avenue, stealing $4,620.

In the latest robbery, on Wednesday at the Liberty Avenue branch, he was handed $1,000.

The total take from the four bank robberies: $12,720.

Police released a grainy photograph of the suspect from a video surveillance camera. Authorities say he is about 35 years old, and was last seen wearing a black waist length jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers.
