The Queens District Attorney’s Office is asking if there are additional victims of a choir director accused of abusing one of his students, that they should come forward, the New York Daily News reported. Rafael Diaz was arrested Saturday for allegedly fondling an 11-year-old girl he was hired to give singing and piano lessons. The alleged incidents took place in the child’s home between 2013 and 2014. The child eventually told her father about the alleged abuse, and during a “controlled telephone conversation” with her father,Diaz admitted that he did touch her, the paper reported.
The 69-year-old, who is the choir director at the Presentation of Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Queens, was ordered held on $35,000 bail when he was arraigned Sunday.
The Queens DA asks that anyone who felt they may have been victimized to call 718-286-6505.
