A massive fire in Richmond Hill Saturday night gutted 13 buildings and left dozens of people homeless, authorities said Sunday.
About 250 firefighters were called to the fire at 10:50 p.m. and finally subdued the blazeat around 2:40 a.m.
Five people, including two firefighters, sustained injuries that officials said weren’t life-threatening. Approximately 40 people remain displaced from their homes. The Red Cross is currently coordinating care for the displaced individuals. Residents took shelter in a nearby Kennedy Fried Chicken where they watched the blaze swallow nearly the entire block, NBC 4 reported.
FDNY officials traced the source to the ACE store at 110-14 Liberty Street. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is not believed to be suspicious.
