The New York Rangers fired head coach David Quinn, the team announced Wednesday morning.

Assistant coaches David Oliver, Jacques Martin and Greg Brown were also relieved of their duties. Goaltending coach Benoit Allaire was retained by new team president and general manager Chris Drury.

“I would like to thank David Quinn, David Oliver, Jacques Martin and Greg Brown for all of their efforts and dedication to the Rangers,” Drury said. “I wish each of them the best in their future endeavors. We will begin our search for a new head coach immediately.”

Quinn’s dismissal was the third prominent firing by the Rangers in the past week. The team fired president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton last Wednesday.

The Rangers failed to qualify for the playoffs for the fourth straight season after posting a 27-23-6 record in 2020-21. They finished in fifth place in the East Division.

Quinn, 54, compiled a 96-87-25 record during his three seasons as coach of the Rangers after taking over for Alain Vigneault on May 23, 2018.

Quinn served as the head coach of Boston University for the previous five seasons, guiding his alma mater to four NCAA Tournament appearances — including a spot in the 2015 national championship game.

Overall, Quinn posted a 105-68-21 record at Boston University.

Oliver and Brown joined the Rangers’ coaching staff on July 17, 2018. Martin joined the team on Aug. 31, 2020 and served as an assistant coach for the 2020-21 season.
