Rutgers football fans hoping for their still-being-constructed coaching staff to finally take on a local favor might not have to wait too much longer. Bobby Acosta, a born inQueens, N.Y. but raised in North Jersey, a man who played his college football in South Jersey at Rowan, might be one the next additions to the staff. So far, recently named head coach Chris Ash has named an offensive coordinator, a special teams coordinator and the man who will head the strength and conditioning program. But with National Signing Day closing in, Ash needs to round out his staff if he hopes to close out with some of the top ranked players left on the program’s big board. Sources close to the program tell Metro that Rutgers and Ash have reached out to multiple people connected to Acosta, who has very strong ties to the area as a player, coach and recruiter.
Acosta, who has been a head coach in SouthJersey at the high school and the Division III college level, could help out a staff where none of Ash’s appointments to date have local ties. Acosta, who has both played, coached and recruited the recruit-richturf of New Jersey could be a major asset to the program. He recently recruited New Jersey for Syracuse, where he has spent the last two years as a tight end’s coach and then as the wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator.
During that span, he helped land Dontae Strickland, a highly-ranked recruit in Syracuse’s 2015 class as well as Daivon Ellison and Jake Pickard.
