The Saugus 19-year-old who is facing a slew of charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old behind an elementary school — a crime that was posted on Snapchat — was ordered held without bail on Monday.
Rashad Deihim was arraigned on charges of assault with intent to rape, kidnapping, indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or older, and posing or exhibiting a child in a sexual act in Lynn District Court.
Deihim, who pleaded not guilty, had turned himself into police in Newburyport over the weekend, after police had put out an all-points-bulletin describing him as a skinny man of average height who was dangerous and may be trying to flee the state.
Authorities say Deihim, along with a 17-year-old male and Kailyn Bonia, 18, assaulted the victim in a wooded area behind an elementary school in Saugus on Sept. 3. Bonia is currently being held without bail at the women’s prison in Framingham. The 17-year-old, who is being charged as a minor and whose identity is therefore being withheld, allegedly recorded the incident and posted it on Snapchat.
Police found the victim naked in the bushes upon arriving at the scene of the crime, according to the Essex County DA’s office.
The victim’s mother has said her daughter was drugged before being sexually assaulted. The DA’s office said she was “definitely under the influence of something” but could not say what, pending toxicology results.
The 17-year-old male who allegedly recorded the assault and posted it on Snapchat is facing a charge of decimating child pornography in addition to the charges of sexual assault and kidnapping.
Snapchat is a social media app where users can briefly share images and video.
The Essex County District Attorney’s office confirmed to the Metro that the video “showed that girl being sexually assaulted.”
The Snapchat video was seen by an acquaintance of the victim, who then notified her father. He then contacted police.
