Should gay actors stay in the closet for their careers? Matt Damon thinks so

Straight male actor Matt Damon thinks that gay and lesbian actors would do better in their careers if they weren’t public about their sexual orientation.

The actor was asked in a recent inteview about whether or not he thought it was harder to be an openly gay actor in Hollywood.

“I don’t want to, like [imply] it’s some sort of disease — then it’s like I’m throwing my friends under the bus,” Damon told The Guardian, refering to rumors he and Ben Affleck were a couple when they debuted as co-authors of “Good Will Hunting.” But at the time, I remember thinking and saying, Rupert Everett was openly gay and this guy — more handsome than anybody, a classically trained actor — it’s tough to make the argument that he didn’t take a hit for being out.”

Damon didnt’ stop there though.

“In terms of actors, I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period. And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”

Damon has been no stranger to controversy lately. The actor found himself in a malestrom of controversy after he shut down a black female producer to “mansplain” diversity in Hollywood.
