There usually isn’t this much attention surrounding an American soccer star, especially with the United States not competing in this summer’s World Cup, but Borussia Dortmund and USMNT forward Christian Pulisic is getting transfer attention from some of the largest clubs in the world.
In fact, most of the buzz is coming from the Premier League in England.
Per multiple reports, the 19-year-old has been linked to moves with Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, as all four teams have shown interest in bringing the starlet on next season.
Liverpool seems like the most logical fit for Pulisic should he move from the Bundesliga, which may not be so simple considering perennial champions Bayern Munich is lurking as a possible destination for the American. Regardless, the Champions League finalists have a strong American following and are owned by John W. Henry, who also owns the Boston Red Sox. Not to mention, NBA superstar LeBron James is a part owner of Liverpool as well.
Bringing on the top American talent would only fuel the club’s image in the US. More importantly, though, it would provide Liverpool with a replacement for Phillipe Coutinho, who joined La Liga giants Barcelona earlier this year.
It wouldn’t be too unfamiliar a setting for Pulisic either considering Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, was his former boss at Dortmund.
This isn’t the first time the Reds have been after the Pennsylvania native, either. During the summer of 2016, they almost inked him to a $14.6 million deal as he made the jump from Dortmund’s youth club to the senior squad.
But there is going to be far more competition for his signature this summer.
Tottenham could be keen on signing Pulisic after they missed out on Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon, per the Telegraph. The 18-year-old was likely to make a move had Fulham not made the Premier League, but the London side managed to win promotion in the Championship Play-off Final over Aston Villa over the weekend.
Manchester United is also very high on Pulisic and is willing to swap Frenchman Anthony Martial for the American, per David McDonnell of the Daily Mirror. United looks desperate to find some form of attacking help for Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
Chelsea though might be in a better place to make a swap compared to United. Blues striker Michy Batshuayi is already on loan at Dortmund and the German side wants to keep him, but instead of the $66.4 million Chelsea would want in return, they could ask for Pulisic instead, per the Daily Mail.
The Blues are also short of attacking options up front as Olivier Giroud became a top option up front after Alvaro Morata’s inconsistent struggles.
