It’s only going to get worse for the Jets as they have the Patriots this Sunday, the Eagles following their bye week, then the Cowboys, and then the Pats again. That’s brutal.
New York is likely looking at an 0-6 start.
Given what the Jets will look like in October, given that we’re now in an NBA-like atmosphere of player movement, and given that Jets coach Adam Gase never wanted Le’Veon Bell on his team in the first place – Bell could become the hottest commodity on the trade market ahead of the deadline at the end of next month.

If Bell isn’t traded in October, then he will most certainly become a trade piece for the Jets next March at the start of the 2020 league year. As ESPN’s Rich Cimini pointed out this past offseason, a one and done for Bell in New York is a real possibility.
“Bell’s situation is fascinating now that reports have surfaced about how Gase was turned off by the running back’s price tag (four years, $52.5 million),” Cimini wrote. “He has $13 million in guarantees, including a $2 million roster bonus on March 15, but a one and done isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. Hey, the New York Giants traded Odell Beckham only one year into a mega deal.”
Teams that will likely be in touch with Jets GM Joe Douglas next month regarding any and all players Gang Green may be looking to dump are the Eagles, Bears, Bills and Chiefs.
All of those teams believe they have playoff potential, and all of those teams have front office members ready to make a bold move.
The Eagles obviously have a history with Douglas as he was employed by Philly just four months ago. Howie Roseman sniffed around on the trade front for Melvin Gordon, as his goal is to again surround Carson Wentz with as many weapons as possible.
Bell is the ultimate pass-catching back, as we witnessed Monday night against the Browns as he 10 grabs for 61 yards in addition to 68 yards on the ground. He would certainly make the Eagles offense even more scary than it already is.
The Bears, meanwhile, were connected to Bell in free agency. David Montgomery has been a fine addition to the offense but anyone who has watched the Bears these first few weeks knows that the offense could use more talent. Chicago can’t get a new quarterback at this point in the season, but they could at least surround Mitchell Trubisky with elite talent. Bell would certainly fit the bill as he is as versatile an offensive performer as there is.
As for the Bills – Devin Singletary is already banged up, and Buffalo GM Brandon Beane has the cap space available to make a big move next month. The only question is whether or not the Jets would trade Bell within their division?
And finally we come to the Chiefs.
There were whispers that the Chiefs wanted to bring in Antonio Brown after he was released by the Raiders, as Kansas City is obviously going for broke when it comes to a Super Bowl. Running back is a clear weakness for last year’s AFC runner-up and adding Bell would immediately vault Kansas City past the Patriots in terms of having the top offense in the conference.
