Erik Palmer-Brown is now the latest American heading overseas. The 20-year old center back has parlayed his form with the youth national team and in recent months with MLS side Sporting Kansas City into a move to a European giant.
Sources out of England tell Metro that Palmer-Brown has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Manchester City of the English Premier League. The Champions League outfit was eager to add the services of one of the top young players in North America, the source said.
The club beat out some stiff competition including Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax among multiple other clubs.
Palmer-Brown will leave MLS at the end of the year when his contract with SKC expires. At the time of his signing, Palmer-Brown was the youngest player ever brought in to Kansas City, a former academy product who worked his way to the MLS side.
He has just six starts this year in large part due to his heavy international workload but he has started and played the full 90 minutes in four of his last seven matches.
He was named captain of the U-20 national team earlier this year, leading the team to capture the CONCACAF title for the first time in program history. He was also a standout at this summer’s U-20 World Cup where the United States made a strong run to the quarterfinals, losing to eventual finalist Venezuela.
