On Friday night, comedian and actor Steve Harvey reprised one of his most meaningful roles yet. He hosted the revival of “Showtime at the Apollo” which airs tonight on FOX at 8pm. The show, which aired from 1987 until 2008, is how Harvey, and other amazing acts like Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys, got their start in the entertainment industry. Harvey hosted the show from 1993-2000. The Young, Black & Fabulous reports that Friday’s filming for the show’s 30th anniversary, included a performance from Ja Rule and Ashanti of their new Hamilton soundtrack hit “Helpless.” Comedians Mike Epps and Chris Rock, and hip-hop artists Rakim and Doug E. Fresh were also in attendance for the taping. The preview iscertainly servingsome nostalgia. But everyone knows “Sowtime at the Apollo” is known for it’s brutal audience reactions. We’re mostly looking forward to joining the crowd in booing unsavory acts.
