Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland found dead on tour bus

Scott Weiland, singer for the popular ’90s grunge band Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on his tour bus Thursday evening.He was 48. The news was first reported by TMZ and soon officially confirmed via Weiland’sFacebook page: “Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”

Weiland was set to perform a show with his current band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, at the Medina Ballroom. The show was quickly canceled after the discovery of Weiland’s body around 9 p.m. The cause of his death is unknown at this time.

Weiland rose to fame leading Stone Temple Pilots in the early 1990s with hits like “Vasoline,” “Creep” and “Interstate Love Song.” He fell out with the grouppartially over arguments about Weiland’s struggles with substance abuse. He later fronted Velvet Revolver with Guns ‘N’ Roses veterans Slash, Duff McKagen and Matt Sorum.
