Stranger Things might replace House of Cards as the most talked about show on Netflix, but there is more to talk about that the strange goings-on in the dusty town of Hawkins. The show is badass and (bonus) no one in the cast has been accused of sexual misconduct. (Yet.) But Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard just got a bit more badass with his 14-year-old self after scoring a record deal.
Yep, Wolfhard, who plays Mike in Stranger Things, is the frontman for a four-piece indie group called Calpurnia made up mainly of 14-year-olds, Elle UK reported.
Calpurnia — comprised of Finn, Guilt Trip actor Malcolm Craig, Ayla Tesler-Mabe and Jack Anderson — got noticed after Finn posted some videos of the band covering The Pixies and Twin Peaks. Other videos show the Vancouver-based band covering New Order and Mac DeMarco.
Mac DeMarco was so impressed that he invited Wolfhard on stage with him to perform a guitar solo. Twin Peaks (the band, not the David Lynch cult classic TV show) was so psyched about Calpurnia covering its track “Wanted You,” the band wrote on Twitter: “Our boy and his band really did the damn thing. Big love Finn, can’t wait to actually meet ya dude.”
The bands have since met and Calpurnia signed with Canadian label Royal Mountain Records. The record company has released Alvvays, Mac DeMarco and METZ in the past, NME reported.
Wolfhard wrote in a statement:
“It is so sweet that we have such a good team at Royal Mountain Records. I love everyone on it. I’m extremely excited to record our EP with Cadien Lake James. Not only is he in one of my favourite bands of all time, and recorded some of my favourite songs, but he is also the sweetest guy ever. Thanks everyone so much who helped us out along the way, it means the world. <3”
Calpurnia is in the studio recording its first EP, Brooklyn Vegan reported.
All of us are #together and ready to start recording today!

Wolfhard starred in two PUP videos before Stranger Things and told Now Toronto, “If I hadn’t done the PUP video, I probably wouldn’t be playing music right now.”
“I love 80s and 90s music,” he told NME in November. “I love Nirvana, Joy Division and New Order – older alternative, I guess. There’s a scene where they use ‘Atmosphere’ by Joy Division. Charlie Heaton’s character is crying. It’s perfect.”
