Marcus Mariota may have won both the Heisman and the Maxwell Award as the nation’s top college football player, likely making him a bit jaded about awards. But nothing could prepare him for his likeness being embossed in meat products and guacamole. Delicious, wonderful guacamole.
On Wednesday, restaurant juggernaut Subway announced that Mariota was joining the company as one of their “Famous Fan”spokesmen. As part of the kickoff for the announcement, a likeness of the former Oregon quarterback, who will be a first round pick in next week’s NFL Draft, was fashioned out of the restaurant chain’s notoriously fresh products. The statue was life-sized and unveiled at the Subway in Honolulu, Hawaii, his hometown. In a statement released by Subway, Mariota said that “Subway has been a staple in my diet since I was a young football player as the perfect meal before practices and games, and will continue to be part of my training regimen as I enter the professional ranks.” Mariota will appear in various marketing platforms for Subway, presumably in human and not condiment form. He has been a popular selection as a top five pick in many mock drafts for the upcoming NFL Draft.
